Appreciating Appreciation
There�s a song called �Thank God for Dirty Dishes� that makes the point that if you�re lucky to have enough food to make dirty dishes, you should be grateful.
So instead of grousing about your property taxes, be thankful you own property. When you have to wait in line at the bank or are stuck in traffic, just be grateful you have money in the bank and a car to drive.
It makes sense, but that doesn�t make it easy.
I have to admit that appreciation has not been a natural attribute for me. In my more ambitious days when I believed that excess was not enough, gratitude seemed like a form of surrender and a very poor life strategy. After all, if you�re satisfied with the way things are, you�ll never make them better.
What a pity I had to reach my 50s before I began to appreciate appreciation. I finally began to see that it was irresponsible and irreverent not to realize how many things I should feel grateful for. I also came to realize how good it feels to acknowledge how good I have it.
Real gratitude is much more than politeness, like saying thank you when someone passes the salt or conveys good wishes; it�s a deeper psychological state of genuine thankfulness.
Whether we believe whatever good fortune we have is the product of our own labor and talents, random luck, or a gift from God, the fact remains that each of us could spend a full day identifying all the things that merit gratitude.
According to an old proverb, �If you never learn the language of gratitude, you�ll never be on speaking terms with happiness.�
I�m still a beginner, but it�s true; the more I appreciate, the happier I am. That�s a lesson I want my children to learn.

INTERESTING TIMES WE ARE LIVING IN.
A FAKE ELECTION ENDING IN THE FAKE INAUGURATION OF A FAKE PRESIDENT OF A FAKE (DEFUNCT) CORPORATION. FASCINATING.

In these times, no matter what subject you may have interest in or have opinion on there is hardly ever anything you can definitively put your finger on as true and accurate. There is a point- counterpoint on everything. No matter how many people say something is bad for you, one can find just as many people who will say the same thing is good for you. No matter how many people say something is true you can find just as many who say it is false.
We live in times of chaos and uncertainty and usually gravitate whichever direction that comes closest to justifying our perceptions of what we believe to be reality. Discerning the actual truth becomes a very frustrating exercise in mental chess. But there are certain things that can be identified as an �absolute truth�. Water is wet, the sky is high, food keeps us alive and shelter keeps us dry.
One absolute truth that we all can engage in is helping others is beneficial to your soul. It doesn�t matter what status in life you may exist in or what resources you may have at your disposal, we are all blessed with the capacity to help others. You don�t have to be wealthy to give. The smallest gestures of goodwill can have the most profound effects. Shoveling a sidewalk, cutting your neighbors grass, helping someone change a tire, holding a door for someone, helping someone carry their groceries or just being friendly to a stranger in need of friendship can change the outlook of those otherwise living in chaos and uncertainty.
As we wait for governments to clean up their chaos, the GCR/RV to readjust the global financial systems and humanity to awaken in the populous of the world we should all be doing our own individual part in making the world a better place. It is the small things accumulated that make the bigger things possible. Do what you can when you can with what you have at your disposal. A smile, a kind gesture or action doesn�t cost you anything and is always beneficial to both parties. You may find yourself surprised at how life becomes clearer and more livable when you act selflessly.
You don�t need superpowers to be a hero. You don�t even have to have a heroic job. Small, kind acts can bring great happiness to others. A moment of your time can bring sunshine to anyone�s cloudy day, making you�re their hero, even for just a moment.
