In the 1800's a spiritual/cultural revolution swept up from the south over the Plains Indians. At its center was peyote, a means of giving humans the personal experience of higher planes of reality. Enlightenment.

One result was the tribes stopped killing each other. They still went on raids and stole each other's ponies, but now they just tapped their foes with a Coup Stick. Anyone so tapped was out of combat.

Roughly analogous to the age of chivalry in Europe. Who knows how far, how deeply it would have altered Indian life, had it not been followed by the White Man?

As the century wound down Coup Sticks were no match for Winchesters and cannons. Out of the wreck of a civilization rose Wuvoka. He said if the tribes would go into the hills and keep dancing the dance he taught them, that the Whites would go away eventually and the lands would be free again.

Mark, and all, we need a dance to dance together. Is it Wuvoka's Ghost Dance? Not against the Whites, but against that mindset which would conquer our Mother Earth, and make Her children their slaves.

I don't know how it goes, but let's try it anyway.
