Not only are the dirty dishes still in the sink when we come home from work, but all the stars and planets and galaxies are still in the sky following the same courses they were when we last looked at them. We must be creating all of it. Maybe that's why these aliens seem so hard to pin down. We're not actually creating them. They are from the gone-when-you-stop-looking universe. And perhaps that's why babies think something no longer exists when they can't see it. I think I'm being serious. I'm not sure.

I guess we were were lazy, and didn't want to have to keep creating things over again.
