Austria will, due to the refugee crisis on the Macedonian border send 20 police officers, and is considering sending military also.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz said that Vienna would do everything it can to help Macedonian Government in the refugee crisis, and that it will sent to the Macedonian border twenty policemen, while the Austrian Ministry of Defence is considering the possibility of sending military support also.

Kurz said in an interview published today by the Macedonian agency MIA assessed that Macedonia is making every effort to protect its border with Greece, in order to regulate the influx of migrants and refugees what, he said, Austria appreciates.

"Depending on further requests of Macedonia and its European partners should do everything they can to help it cope with the current migrant crisis and protect its borders," said Kurz.

Assistance for the countries 'Aegean route'

He reiterated that Vienna fully supports a European solution, which would consist in securing external borders, and reducing the number of refugees and migrants who arrive in the European Union, which requires greater cooperation with Turkey and to provide greater humanitarian assistance to the countries from which refugees originate primarily Syria and neighboring countries.

Asked how he sees the role of Greece in the future when it comes to solving the refugee crisis, Kurz expressed the hope that Greece will secure the external borders of the Aegean Sea with the help of EU and provide shelter, food and medical care to migrants and refugees, who are currently in that country .

"The EU and its Member States are ready to help Greece in this endeavor. On a bilateral basis we support Greece in dealing with this crisis with humanitarian aid, and we will provide five million euros for the countries along the Aegean routes, primarily to Greece and Lebanon" said Austrian Foreign Minister.
