Macedonian authorities have introduced new restrictions on refugees trying to cross the border and allows entry only to those from the cities that they believe are in the war, said today the Greek police officials.

According to them, imposed restrictions mean that people from the Syrian city of Aleppo can enter Macedonia from Greece, but those from Damascus or Baghdad, capital of Iraq can not. Police officials declined to state their name because they do not have permission to speak to the media, according to the AP.;

This is the latest move of Macedonia to halt the influx of refugees into the country. It has already drastically reduced admission of refugees, of which between 13,000 and 14,000 are blocked in a crowded camp in Idomeni on the Greek side of the border.

The head of Greece's northern Macedonia province Apostolos Cikostas told Greek television and Sky that in Idomeni there is about 13,000 people, and nearly 20,000 in the near area, which is 60 percent of the total number of migrants in Greece, AFP reports.

The number of migrants, mainly Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans blocked in Greece has increased since Macedonia and other countries in the so-called Balkan route, to Austria have introduced restrictive measures.
