Operational plans for Desert Storm (the ground war) sent the French contingent way out on the left flank to the northwest of the major engagement areas--virtually "hors de combat".

The official explanation for this was the French were sensitive to their national "interests" in the mideast and didn't wish to offend any country there by taking drastic military action against an Arab state. But they were there, and they were armed.

I was a naive network news junkie at the time, testosteroned out on glibly-packaged images of "smart bombs" (is that an oxymoron?) and jingoed out on the concept of a US-led coalition to oust an evil monster from an innocent country whose babies were being bayonetted, etc. and so never questioned that rationale.

So after reading the Barry Chamish story my first thought was "the French weren't engaged, so that's why their troops weren't infected." But now I wonder if sending the French troops out of the fire zones wasn't a ploy designed to create just such a reaction as mine, when and if the truth about GWS finally leaked.

Or if it's what the French insisted upon, to cover their immunization to GWS.

What hinders the unraveling of this is that covert ops, as I'm learning, are multilayered, serve several purposes at once, and cover several possible future scenarios. In Part 1 of the same interview Morehouse "debunks" the idea that TWA800 was brought down by missiles fired by Arab terrorists. I mean, the guy says he's ex-CIA and has published a book. But has he done prison time for anything yet?
