David Janssen's filming of MAYDAY AT 40,000 FEET! (1976 TV Movie) - No Rest for the Rich & Famous!

Actor David Janssen's down-to-earth, very believable detective series, 'Harry O', had begun production in San Diego around July of 1974 and in between shooting this tv series Janssen also appeared in other movies.

However, in addition to being struck and injured by equipment that fell on his head on set, costing him stitches and postponed shooting, his new wife's daughter suffered a house fire and explosion in which her daughter's husband and child were killed during Janssen's and wife's honeymoon bringing an end to their Acapulco trip.

You may have heard the expression "there's no rest for the poor or the wicked". It seems there is also sometimes no rest for the rich and famous as well.

March through April of 1976 may not have brought actor David Janssen much relief in the way of rest, either. (The actor who had worked at such a steady, sometimes hectic pace for so many years finally had a fatal heart attack at his home late one night during the filming of "Father Damien" in 1980.) In between the filming of 'Harry O' Janssen filmed this interesting air-emergency type movie with some well known names in the cast, including -

Lynda Day George, Don Meredith, Jane Powell, Christopher George, Ray Milland, Maggie Blye, Broderick Crawford, Christopher Norris.

This film is available as of this writing at Amazon.com and other online outlets and is also on YouTube.com. I would imagine the resolution is better on the DVD copies.

: So fans will probably always wonder if David simply worked
: himself to death, and if the cigarettes did it, or if he
: was poisoned by some intruder who found the cookies,
: knowing he or someone would eventually eat them.
