USS Ronald Reagan, the ninth nuclear class Nimitz nuclear propulsion aircraft carrier. Navy was launched at Newport News on March 4, 2001 and is deployed to the Yokosuka Naval Base in eastern Japan.

Classified as CVN 76 (Aircraft Carrier Nuclear), like all Nimitz class nuclear aircraft carriers, is powered by two A4W nuclear reactors, allowing it to reach a cruise speed of 30 knots (55 km / h), has a length of 332.85 meters An approximate displacement of 97,000 tons. The maximum hull width is 40.8 meters. The bridge is 76.8 meters long and features a launch and recovery system for CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take Off But Arrested Recovery) aircraft.

The USS Reagan embarks on the Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, consisting of 60+ aircraft divided into four squadrons 'VFA' of F / A-18 C Hornet or F / A-18 E and F Super Hornet, a "VAQ" squadron for the Growler EA-18G electronic warfare, a Hawkeye E-2C turbocharged twin-engine twin-engine VAW, a HSC squadron of Sea Hawk MH-60S fighter helicopters 'HSM' squadron for anti-missile / anti-submarine warfare composed by Sea Hawk MH-60R, a 'VRC' squadron for logistic support made up of Greyhound C-2A.

The crew of a Nimitz class aircraft carrier ranges between 3,000 and 3,200 sailors, 1,500 Air Wing components, and 500 other crew members, including specialists, marines, and technical personnel.

The USS Reagan offensive / defensive weapon systems are entrusted to Sea Sparrow, Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) missiles and super-fast anti-aircraft gun Phalanx CIWS.

The USS Reagan is accompanied by its Carrier Strike Group (CSG) consisting of Ticonderoga class USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) and USS Shiloh (CG-67) launchers, and Arleigh Burke USS Barry (DDG 52) chain sailboats, USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), USS McCampbell (DDG 85).

Located in the Japanese Sea and headed to the Korean Peninsula following the tensions caused by North Korean missile tests, USS Reagan took part in the Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom operations.
