Of the many alarming ways in which elected US president Donald Trump may turn the traditional American foreign policy, the most worrying is his promise to the US Embassy in Israel to move to Jerusalem, according to Foreign Policy. Some other successful presidential candidates, namely Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, promised the same, but when they were elected, they avoid to do it.
Unlike them, it seems that Trump will not give up this idea. What will follow is a colossal a stupid mistake - not only for Palestinians but also for the US diplomatic reputation, and Israeli National Security Council, says FP. Trump persistence in leaving the impression that he really intend to relocate the embassy when he will sit in the presidential office seems to be part of a broader movement that his administration is ready to make towards the Israeli extreme right.
Without guaranteeing the rights of Palestinians
A candidate for ambassador, lawyer David Friedman, who advised Trump in his past bankrupt procedures, has a long history of extreme statements about the Palestine-Israeli conflicts, and his views is contrary to international law and a long-term policy which the US conducted towards Israel and Palestine.
Friedman strongly supports the aggressive activities of holding territory and categorically opposes the solutions of the two states, although, like most of these advocates, he very carefully avoids to pronounce that this kind of political settlement is appropriate. This is probably because his vision contains something unspeakable in diplomacy culture - uninterrupted apartheid system together with "self-governing" Palestinian Banthustans in a large Israel, which controls most of the country without the occupied territories to take responsibility for their population.
The disturbing news of the Ambassador
All of Friedman's public statements are expressing the position of the maximum of Jewish nationalism, without guaranteeing the rights of the Palestinians as humans, which national law or international law. The very idea that Friedman could be ambassador disturbing enough, but more disturbing is the idea of moving US embassy to Jerusalem. Because of the unanimous international consensus regarding the special status of Jerusalem, no embassy in Israel is not located in Jerusalem, and almost all are in Tel Aviv.
This rule is always true for the United States and other major international force, although 24 states have had a close and embassies in West Jerusalem. Jerusalem brings together religious, national, symbolic and ethnic sensitivity into one powerful and dangerous combination. If the Palestinians decide that their future is in that regard as their affected because US policy, may be followed by a violent response, first spontaneously and later organized which will most likely take you to the uprising.
For Israel, the benefits of the US Embassy in Jerusalem would be symbolic, while the cost and the consequences could be dramatic and significant. Not only should deal with the new wave of violence; this would severely undermine Israel could regional role in diplomatic efforts of negotiations with key Arab countries.
