"The return to the screen of Miss SUSAN PETERS" is listed in the opening credits as she had been shot and in a wheelchair, etc., tried to make comeback, etc.. This film and 'Song of Russia' may be somewhat rare.

Some blogger(s) actually say they remember seeing newspaper articles about the shooting which stated her companion actually shot her accidentally, but this editor cannot confirm this. Her companion would have been Richard Quine who also, reportedly, shot himself to death in about 1989.

The hunting accident - any kind of suspicious accident at all appears very suspicious so close to the upcoming H.U.A.C. hearings.

If her companion shot her it makes the shooting highly suspicious before the upcoming H.U.A.C. hearings, the Communist 'witch hunts', just as the traffic stop of Frances Farmer looked suspicious when it ended up sending her to the asylum just a few years prior to this shooting. Frances knew the top Hollywood Communists, and/or at least knew names.

: How much bad luck can a young lady suffer after making such an
: inspiring, somewhat historical film? In real life Susan
: Peters (2), who was well received in the film 'Tish',
: suffered a miscarriage with year-long, almost fatal illness
: after this film was released. Then she suffered a gunshot
: wound, supposedly an accident, while on a hunting trip,
: then her beloved mother had a fatal heart attack at age 52

: Susan seemed to be a hard working girl from the getgo who was
: trying to help support her family even back when she was an
: elevator operator, so it's difficult not to notice all her
: hardships, considering reported the H.U.A.C. condemnation.

: Here are some timeline notes on Susan Peters, such a very
: beautiful lady on-screen, and possibly, beautiful
: off-screen, too.

: Suffers miscarriage with a year of serious illness.
: 1944 - Was replaced by Donna Reed for the film 'Gentle Annie'
: due to a miscarriage. Was reportedly not on screen for
: almost a year with possible near-fatal illness.

: January 1, 45 - Was shot, supposedly accidentally, after
: filming 'Song of Russia', Release date(s) 10 February 1944.
: Shot less than a year of film's release.

: December 4, 1945 - mother dies of a heart attack at age 52

: Her bio indicates after she divorced Quine she fell ill and
: had to enter a sanitarium and cancel an engagement to an
: Army Officer, a Colonel Robert Clark. She seemed to be ill
: while Quine was around, especially after filming 'Song of
: Russia', and then fell ill again after the Army Colonel was
: around her. She didn't seem to recover from this last
: illness.

: She may have known she was dying when she went to her
: brother’s cattle ranch in Lemon Grove, California, and
: became reclusive in 1952.

: Were the critics of the film, Song of Russia, actually
: concerned about the romance between the Russian woman and
: an American male? Were they afraid it could set a
: precedent? There are lots of beautiful Russian women, as a
: matter of fact.
