A group of American scientists from the for Regenerative Medicine, Wake Forest Institute in North Carolina have announced that they managed to print a live muscle, bone tissue (part of the jaw bone), cartilage and a genuine human ear, all intended to treat a man injured in a war zone. The study was funded by the US Military Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
In a report published in the journal Nature Biotechnology, experts from Winston-Salem to claim to be made on a specially adapted sophisticated bioprinteru that after 20 years of experimentation could really make a breakthrough in transplant surgery. Printing tissues and body parts so far only been tested on laboratory animals. This is the first time that someone has printed fabric in the dimensions of the human anatomy and transplant to humans. The venture is remarkable because the copy as live tissue. Can you kolonozirati blood vessels grow and restores normal.
VIDEOThe Institute has released a video where you can see how the printer produces implantable bone tissue in the jaw, creating a micro-ducts through which oxygen and nutrients to pass into him after being incorporated into the patient's body.
Director of the Institute Wake Forest Anthnoy Atala told Guardian said that their 3D bioprinter can "produce stable human tissue of any shape." With further development, says Atala, these technologies we could use to print living organs or parts of organs for transplantation.
The next task-parts and organs for transplantation
Tim Wake Forest with its bioprinter was developed ten years. In order to create tissue using biodegradable molds and gels based on water in which living cells. The next challenge is printed tissue that can survive long enough in the conditions of the operating room, so it could be used for transplantation.
Scientists have so far made it to a child's ear, which is two months after transplantation under the skin of laboratory mouse showed signs of growth of blood vessels and cartilage. Print out the muscle tissue, implanted it in rats and followed that in two weeks it form nerves and skull fragments embedded in another rat study in five months have created new bone tissue with its own blood supply.
