You continue to imagine, though, that you have a clear understanding of collective groups of individuals as single entities and that should confront to your satisfaction actions accomplished chiefly by individuals now long dead. Most Americans now living have never owned a slave, have never thought to oppress a person of color, and have never treated an Indian poorly. But most Americans now living are well able to compare those historical events against current understandings and recognize the general wrongness of them as viewed today. What's not possible, though, is to stand on behalf of those long-dead people and say, "They are sorry and apologize; please forgive them.")

I picked up those sweeping statement habits comes from the King James Bible that uses the word "Gentiles" and the Book of Enoch that uses the phrases "the Great Whites" and "White Sheep".

It is interesting how Germany embraces learning and talking about it's painful past but America shys away from discussing hers for fear of "hurt feelings" and destroying images built on half-truths.
