I concur with most of what you say. As a special ed . teacher of about 35 years , I have seen the exponential growth of the definition of autism. While this exercises me greatly , I am more concerned with the sidelining of other special conditions due to a lack of definition. The children who are not defined by "definable conditions" are not afforded any help at all.
For example, those who are labelled get help. Those who are general mild ,or non-specific , are not given any discernible help. Schools are at a loss to find resources for those children.

When I started in special ed. we were told not to limit the child with labels. Then the legal system moved in to label. The labelled child got more resources. The result was that the unlabelled child got none. Go figure.
