It is true that Jews are not a nation but merely an ideological political collective, but arguably that collective is not a religion either.

Jews are neo-Pharisees, ie an ethno-centric political collective whose ideology is spelt out in the Torah and the Talmud. Jews masquerade as both a religion and a nation but are neither. Most Jews are atheists whose g-d is the Jewish collective and those who aren't atheists believe in a demonic, ethno-centric, genocidal entity who is no g-d at all. Moreover, neo-Pharisees who call themselves Jews but are not, seek converts to be inducted into their ethno-centric, collectivist political entity. See eg:

The neo-Pharisees didn't start calling themselves 'Jews' until the latter part of the 18th Century. Most Neo-Pharisees are of Khazarian extraction and those who aren’t have North African origins. They have virtually no genetic connection to the original Pharisees or to Hebrews, Israelites, Judahites or Semites (Shemites). The neo-Pharisees' connection to the crucifixation of Christ Jesus is ideological not genetic, ie they choose to be heirs to the anti-Christ legacy of the Pharisees. Anyone who embraces the Talmud thereby endorses the actions, attitudes and political ideology of the Pharisees who had Christ crucified by the Romans.
