OK. Sorry that didn't help. I did some looking and found this:

which wasn't optimally helpful, but it does show some nice, informative commands and maybe the set-up to a solution.

Personally, I did not have '/etc/asound.conf', but I searched root for asound and found two files '/run/lock/asound.state.lock' and 'var/lib/alsa/asound.state'

There are various solutions that worked for some, but not for others. The links in the right nav may be additionally beneficial, particularly this one:

Linux is weird like this, simple problems that aren't intuatively solved &/or well documented; where the solution is either simple or involves complex contortionist moves. I hope some of this will work for you. Keep us posted.
