Having searched the web I find:

Incumbent Sheriff is/was Sidney C. Dorsey (not Vernon Dorsey).

His wife is on Atlanta City Council.

Corruption publicly mentioned during campaign involved use of prison inmates as free labor in renovation projects on homes of colleagues and contributors of Dorsey and his wife, and in some connection with Dorsey's private "security business".

A "guerrilla news" site advised in August that Dorsey would soon be in jail; I haven't found a story to confirm that yet.

On the BBS at www.mumia.org is a post that mentions Dorsey, in recent years, in connection with the Wayne Williams "Atlanta Child Murders" case, but I don't know how far back Dorsey's association with that case might go. He was quoted as saying he (and others) believe Wayne Williams is innocent (and thus that the actual serial killer is still at large).

Public countercharge against candidate for sheriff Derwin Brown - he believed in aliens. :) In an Atlanta-Journal Consitution article, he was quoted as saying he'd predicted seven years ago evidence of water would be found on Mars, "and I was right about that", implying he could be right in his present belief that we'll be meeting extraterrestrials in the next few years.
