Observed between 6:45 PM Eastern Daylight Time and 7:15 PM, from a vantage point along the Connecticut coast near New Haven:

Remnants of a previous spraying or chemical trail clearly visible in the evening air, as it spread out and diffused, finally coming to look like ice crystals relatively high up as clouds.

A three-jet sortie which had one fast-mover going from southwest to the east northeast, at an angle placing it over Long Island, followed shortly thereafter by another fast-mover working closer to the Connecticut shoreline, which laid down an enormous trail as it moved southwest to east northeast. Another jet followed this one at an interval of five to seven minutes.

Three aircraft with similar light arrangements to the first two made a somewhat parallel flight path well to the north of this sortie but very much lower in the atmosphere. They were fast-movers as well, each moving independently but in the same direction (from the vantage point).

Then, after fifteen minutes or so of dissipation time, but well before the moon appeared at the horizon, a very high level aircraft with red lanterns only moved in the precise path of the first chemical trail producing aircraft, also heading east northeast by appearance. Finally, with the moon rising and providing sustantial illumination in the clear and chilly air, one more brace of aircraft moving off to the north, lighting similar to the mixed white and red of the first three jets, and again really much closer to the ground. One more jet aircraft with red lights only was also noted, but it was at a considerable distance and hard to estimate.

The coastline of south central Connecticut is near JFK on the Island -- and more than one hour by automobile from Hartford's main airport -- with Tweed @ New Haven being about twelve miles distant to the east. It is a very low traffic air field.

It is very disconcerting to see this level of activity, all in one day; it is easily the most that has been seen lately, but not tops for total number of aircraft observed in three hours; the traffic noted between 6:45 and 7:30 PM Eastern was seemingly all headed either east northeast or north by east. The first three fast-movers were truly awesome, making incredible speed.

These are amateur observations, but given as accurately as any person who has seen a lot of jet airplanes land and take off, might care to give.
