Interior Minister Blaz Orepić told N1 that the van near Novska were crammed as many as 67 people in a dozen square meters, and that police literally saved dozens of lives.

In hospitals ended a total of 42 people, said Sunday Health Minister Milan Kujundzic, and main problem of most of them was carbon monoxide poisoning, dehydration, hypothermia and starvation. Some of the them were, on Sunday, already allowed to leave the hospital.

Kujundzic said it might be inappropriate to say that they found them at the last minute, but it's good that they were found.

- They five days ate nothing - said Kujundzic.

Talking about their health, he said he did not know at first what is the state of them all, or that someone is in mortal danger, and that some should stay longer to recover while the most will be taken over by the police. These were mostly younger people, and among them were some children. Due to difficulties with the translation they have hired a translator and have found that they are dealing with Afghans and Pakistanis.

They started with triage immediately at the van because some the patients were on htheir feet, but the part of them was unconscious. Doctors have praised the police which on routine patrol noticed that something was wrong and prevented greater tragedy.

Orepić confirmed that refugees will go back where they came from because they did not legally entered the country.

Migrants were found after the Croatian police interceptor (a fast police car overseeing traffic on Croatian interstate road net) at Novska node stopped the Bulgarian driver of the van with British registration tables. The investigation is still ongoing, and police arrested two Bulgarian nationals, on suspicion of committing a crime of illegal entry, movement and residence in the Republic of Croatia, another Member State of the European Union or signatories of the Schengen Agreement.
