Lest some gullible person believe this nonsense, I feel compelled to reply.

The Talmud does indeed mention some of the things referred to in RogueButterfly's post. However, it is important to understand how they are presented and the context, which is a difficult task even for learned Jews, never mind ignoramuses like RogueButterfly.

Much of the Talmud is a written record of debates and discussions between Rabbis. As in any other emotionally-charged forum, there are bound to be some comments made that are off-color, insensitive, or just plain stupid.

Ever read the Congressional Record? Just because someone makes a comment during a debate, fortunately does not mean that it becomes law.

Let's face it, every religion has its share of assholes. Judaism has them, Islam has them, and Christianity has them (e.g., RogueButterfly).

The Talmud is intended to be a comprehensive record of the debates in order to demonstrate and allow us to learn from the thought processes and variety of opinions that contribute to the ultimate legal conclusion. Like a judicial verdict, there are often dissenting opinions, but the law generally reflects a sound and socially responsible approach.

The final legal decisions are sometimes not even specified in the Talmud itself and were evaluated and codified by later Rabbinic commentaries and authorities. For example, one would see that the commentary to this debate record, Rashi (which appears in the border of Talmud publications), clearly denounces and refutes the statements included in your post, and specifies that they do not reflect the codified law.

Let this be perfectly clear: Jewish law does not hold that any of your out-of-context excerpts are indeed law, and no Jew follows them as law.

But of course, this won't deter inciters like Jana Janus, aka RogueButterfly. Her rantings will continue, fueled by the hatred posted on aryan and nazi websites, where her "quotes" came directly from.

It's a tired old ploy that fools very few people, thank G-d.
