Hollywood director's son pleads innocent to
murder, other charges
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.
(July 19, 2001 12:57 a.m. EDT ) - A Hollywood director's teenage son pleaded innocent Wednesday to murder and other charges that were filed after he allegedly crashed his car into a group of pedestrians and yelled, "I am the angel of death."
David Attias, 18, entered the plea to 13 charges, including manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs.
Attias is the son of Daniel Attias, who has directed episodes of "Ally McBeal," "The Practice" and "The Sopranos." He remains jailed without bail and no trial date was set.
Attias is accused of crashing his car Feb. 23 near the University of California, Santa Barbara, killing four people and critically injuring a fifth. Dozens of students surrounded the driver until police arrived.
Defense attorney Jack Earley said there was a possibility Attias will use a mental defense.
