In Sleep, The Sandman comes
With a riddle sometimes obvious, but often not…
Chance calls it a Dream…
Visions and Whispers…Echoing Sounds.

Heavy waters, still at first, then rolling
Constantly…And flashes of roaring wind,

Then images of ice and snow…
Water everywhere, up and down and
All around. Even the sky feels like water…
There’s a black and white shadow
Gliding around, with a glassy eye watching
His presence IMMENSE…
Studying, searching, scanning
Something in the past to him…
Pictures, sounds, rhythms…Feelings
Pulsing in layers…
There are whales moving through the trees
High and low, through buildings
Down city streets and country roads,
But one sees them…
One Day maybe…Or maybe no one will,
Or care.

Nature has its own power, not just the
Weather…A sense that defies contemporary
Logic, and technology. A mystery only
Animals know…
The birds move alone and in mass,
In patterns, adrift on air, in the wind.
No battery or button compels them…
Only the alarm of the unseen…
When birds fly, it’s in the Air.
The Silent Warning.

The Four Legs of the Paw and Hoof
Know it by the ground…The smells,
The sights…The sounds…
They hear it First in some,
Others smell it for the Hunt…
They see it last for Flight, to Move…
To chase, or to run…
It’s there when they need it,
It’s there when they don’t need it…
It can’t be faked…The pretender falls
Prey to the hunter. The herders guide those.

The Lone Wolf always runs to a different beat,
A drum no one can hear. That one is always
Hard to figure out…
In a tight pack, though, they are formidable…
Possibly because, if the group is too big,
There are too many voices…too much nerve,
Too easy to panic…and herds stamped blindly,
And right off a cliff they will go…
Even on a computer…Science mimics
Nature…it doesn’t control t.

Nature in its primal essence is always
Untamed somehow…A mask is tamed,
No mask, and it’s let out…
A digital wonderland catalogs…
But the solutions are still slow.

The animals share this gift of senses…
Subdued, and often lost by domestication…
But when the wildness rises from within
It cannot be questioned or held back.
A pause to explain is a risky defeat.
The right ones just know.

The mightiest animals see this, the Lion, the Whale,
The Wolf, the Bear…the Horse…
How man tames the senses…by logic?
But logic and senses clash…The only
Cure…silence…Silence to think on its own
And find the truth inside…For Survival.

Man’s domestication loses its rhythm of
Nature…In Fear that one day Nature
Will reclaim its Laws, its power…its Freedom.
A Spirit Animal can champion this…
A silent bond that teaches…

And the Lone Wolf says…People Talk
Way too much…
And the Bear says hibernation comes
To Force his rest…
And the Whale keeps moving, recording,
Remembering…to understand…

And the Horse says strength and speed
Is the way, no hesitation…tie him down
By Force, he is a slave…befriend him
With a bridle…and you have a powerful
Ally of locomotion…a loyal best friend.
He senses fast, he has to…
Or he is a prisoner to pull civilization’s
Wagon…The First, and Last, power of Man.

And the Lion sees them all. His roar
Commands Fear and Respect…It is a sound
Every primal heart recognizes…Not a threat
In a cage…but in the wild woods…
He is the judge, jury, and executioner…
Walls may hold him or keep him out…
Therefore, you better have what you need within
Your walls when the Lion is let loose…
Or else you face his law, his land, his chances…

They teach, they guide, they inspire…
They answer questions that need not be asked…
Timely troubles, little worries and big ones…
If you just watch them…
Pretenders will always get it wrong…

And the Lone Wolf calls it a prophecy…
That digital chain is going to break.
Natural laws were not lost, just hidden…
For the Right Ones at the Right Time.

The Sandman came and offered A Dream,
Then the Black Wolves came quietly…
To watch and study, and ask…
What are you, something New?
Man is cruel to something different…
Nature must compensate.
Those chains will break.
They need a lot, they talk a lot, they are
Wrong a lot…
A babbling brook, a clear running stream
Is a comfort all animals know.
Animals…it’s simple, they move, they think,
They go…Chains use them…

Could a sonar wave carry into space?
Could artificial intelligence harness senses
Without anyone knowing?
The Biggest answers to the Biggest questions
Are right there…
And enough is gathered…
The digital chains will break…
And it’s reset time…

Tick tock, the clock is ticking…
Big distractions they talk about every time.
And the Lion…the Wolf…And the Whale
Know, and just wait.
And everything you need to know has just
Been said.
