Very briefly.
As Bible readers know, Jacob went to Syria, because his brother Esau was chasing him for stealing his birthright. In Syria, Jacob worked for Laban the Syrian for at least twenty years. Jacob also got four wives (Laban's daughters) out of the deal he made with Laban.

Eventually, Jacob left Laban without his knowledge and Laban took after Jacob in anger and caught up with him. At that place, they made a “Covenant” with each other, end so forth.

There is an obscure verse in Deuteronomy 26:5
You thought Jacob was a Jew did you!
“And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous”.

According to this record above, Jacob PROCLAIMS Laban to be his FATHER. Additionally, Jacob's wives were SYRIANS, therefore Jacob's sons were half breed, Jews and Syrians. THEY WEREN'T TRUE JEWS!
Is there such a thing as a “Genuine Jew”?
