(I wonder when they will have a celebration for the end of white slavery in America? On the books, it was sometime around 1835-1840. I forget the date and year, and I don't have the facts right here. Lynda)

The slaves in Texas weren’t the last freed. Slavery didn’t end until December 6, 1865. We’re celebrating the wrong date.

Originally published on June 19, 2021 — the first official Juneteenth federal holiday — Peter Schiff examines the historical record behind the date and argues that June 19th was never the day slavery ended in America. The slaves freed in Galveston, Texas on that date were not the last to be emancipated — approximately 50,000 to 100,000 slaves in Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri, and Maryland remained enslaved until the 13th Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865, nearly six months later.

I looked it up a couple of years ago, and knew it was in December, but like Hell I remembered the exact date. I find all holidays a pain in the patootie being all the extra hours I work, but I suppose I shouldn't complain. December/January doesn't quite kill me as it is, and this Juneteenth was a lot easier than last year, but why should the Chinese even care about it? After all, that's the majority of our clients.
