I grew up in SoCal.

In either 1972 or 1973, I drove to the Capitol Records parking lot in Hollywood to check out the novelty records that Dr. Demento was selling. I bought one or two 45 rpm singles from him (which I no longer own and can't remember what they were).

One of the most popular songs that Demento played on his radio show in those early years was a 1947 Latin-inspired novelty number called Pico and Sepulveda that was attributed to "Felix Figueroa" (a cover name for Freddy Martin and His Orchestra).

At one point, Demento invited listeners to submit their unique versions of Pico and Sepulveda as part of a promotional contest. Two friends of mine and I recorded and submitted our version, which did not get aired but did elicit a written thank you reply from Dr. Demento.
