It’s Shell’s U.S. division that handles fuels, lubricants, and motor oils (the consumer side of Shell in America). When people say “Shell products will disappear first,” they’re talking about popular brands like:

Shell Rotella
Pennzoil
Quaker State
Shell Helix (in some markets)

These all rely heavily on high-quality Group 3 base oils.

Why the insider post is believable:

GTL Group 3 base oil is a premium synthetic base stock made from natural gas. It’s used in almost all modern full-synthetic and high-performance motor oils, transmission fluids, power steering fluid, etc.

The largest GTL plant in the world is Shell’s Pearl GTL in Qatar. Qatar is right next to the Strait of Hormuz and has already been affected by the regional disruptions.

If 40% of global GTL production is truly offline (as the insider claims), that would create an immediate and severe shortage of the base stock that goes into nearly every high-quality lubricant on the market.

The timeline he gives (last shipment April 7th retail shortages starting April 14th) is very specific and matches how supply chains actually work — once the pipeline runs dry, it hits shelves fast.

This is not some random conspiracy rant. It lines up with the fuel shock, the Hormuz situation, and the economic pressure we’ve been watching. Lubricants are one of those “invisible” products that suddenly become a crisis when base oil supply collapses.
