Everyone knows what an Achilles heel is…it’s the vulnerability of a powerful entity to be taken down despite all of its considerable offensive and defensive capabilities. The powerful entity can be a person, an organization, a nation-state, or even an entire society.

Right now, modern western societies that depend on electricity for every function that allows those societies to operate face a single vulnerability that could literally destroy those societies in a single flash of one nuclear explosion. This is the USA's Achille’s heal...a single "properly" placed nuclear explosion that could destroy the country as a human society in an instant. The nuclear device would not have to be that powerful…it could easily fit onto a pretty standard ballistic missile that could be launched from a mobile launch system. There would be no time to stop it and pretty much no way to intercept it before it detonated high in the upper atmosphere above the approximate geographical center of the country.

Now imagine a millisecond after that high altitude nuclear explosion the power grids that serve North America would stop working…there would be no electricity to be had anywhere in North America and the continent is plunged into total, permanent darkness. Beyond this, imagine that every device that depends on micro-electronics in North America…pretty much every device and system in the entire continent…has its electronics fried. Suddenly North America is returned to a time before electricity was used to do anything…every system that sustains us is gone…food production, transportation, sanitation, refrigeration, financial, distribution, healthcare, communications…all gone permanently in a flash and America is instantly returned to mid-18th century technology when the only real power beyond animal power was steam power produced by burning wood or coal.

This is the description of an EMP attack. EMP stands for the “electromagnetic pulse” that emanates from a high-altitude nuclear explosion that induces a high-voltage surge throughout the power grids, electronic systems and devices, permanently reducing those grids, systems, and devices to paper weights. It is estimated that should such an attack occur over the United States that the subsequent breakdown in all of the systems that sustain us as a society would result in the death…the slow, grinding, death primarily from starvation, disease, and civil conflict of 90% of the population of the United States within twelve months…one year. From the standpoint of humanity, an all-out nuclear war would be a far preferable way for any modern society to be destroyed.

In the past the global military/geo-political situation of the USA vis a vis other nuclear armed nations has generally militated against an EMP attack on the USA. However, there is one rogue country on the planet that has been relentlessly pursuing both the nuclear weapon and ballistic missile technologies that would enable it to use an EMP attack to destroy its primary enemy on the planet. That country is extremely, highly motivated to do just that, and that country is of course Iran and its primary enemy is the United States of America.

The fact of the matter is that Iran and America should be natural allies as we once were prior to the takeover of that great country by radical Shiite clerics who went on to term the USA as “the great Satan.” Beginning with the taking of US diplomat hostages during the Carter Administration, the Iran run by the Shiite clerics has been at war with the USA, spreading terror against our and other western interests across the globe over the decades, frequently acting as a proxy state for Russia and China. This is why our first strike on Iran this time was targeted at decapitating the regime that had turned Iran into a conventional global threat against the USA and is rapidly developing a threat that could lead to the total destruction of the USA via an EMP attack.

I believe that this is why President Trump keeps saying that Iran under its present regime can never have a nuclear weapon. I believe that Trump is not talking specifically about the EMP threat from Iran because he does not want to alarm the American citizenry as to the real vulnerability to this sort of total destruction that we do actually face…and he may not want to widely broadcast to others our awareness of our clear vulnerability to this sort of devastating rogue attack. You don’t go around showing off your Achille’s heel to the world.

So, for all of you on both sides of the aisle who are shouting that America is fighting Israel’s war and that Benjamin Netanyahu has Donald Trump in his pocket and that Trump promised us that he would not start any new endless wars in his second term…you are so wrong. Israel is a client state and a proxy of the USA in the Middle East. Right now Israel is taking a real beating for the team while it has provided the US with fabulous intelligence and military might that bears directly on the fanatical regime in Iran. It is fair to say that the US military and intelligence community could not have accomplished what has been accomplished so far in this present conflict without Israel’s intelligence and military assistance. And, as far as starting a new endless war, President Trump is seeking to end yet another endless war, this one with Iran that started as a result of the Carter administration's installation of the current radical Shiite clerical regime in Iran back in 1979. We didn’t start this one, but we must finish it and end the very real existential EMP threat to the USA that would arise from within a nuclear armed Iran.
