They have heard reports now suggests the situation may be now developing more serious than earlier believed.

A couple airports have now been targeted including the PV airport. There are reports that some civilians may have been caught in the crossfire, and that the violence is no longer limited solely to property damage or isolated clashes.

I am here, far from Vallarta, but it's real. They aren't particularly targeting just tourists. They are threatening civilians, Mexicans and in places like Vallarta there are tourists. We know people that know things, there is a lot of stuff going on outside tourist land. Threats are real, and even my backwater state has credible threats. As far as I can confirm, no tourists have been killed or harmed, yet. A taxi driver was killed and some national guard and terrorists because that's what the cartel is.

This is serious.

But why did the CIA and US State Department fail to anticipate this spillover?
