Tennessee has joined Arizona and Minnesota in introducing bold legislation that classifies mRNA shots and related medicines as weapons of mass destruction. Tennessee’s Senate Bill 1949, the “mRNA Bioweapons Prohibition Act,” introduced by Senator Janice Bowling, is a bold step forward in protecting public health and state rights. The bill classifies mRNA injections and related products, including COVID-19 shots and gene-altering technologies, as weapons of mass destruction under Tennessee law. It bans their manufacture, acquisition, possession and distribution. The bioweapon definitions cover modified mRNA that lingers in cells, gene therapies for infectious diseases and nanotechnology for gene changes.

There are no exemptions in the legislation for federal approval, medical use or research. The bill strengthens enforcement by requiring state and local officials from the governor to sheriffs and law enforcement to investigate reported violations. Failure to act becomes a criminal offense. Also, residents gain powerful tools. They can seek court orders, declaratory judgments and damages if officials do not enforce the law. If passed, the act takes effect on July 1, 2026, by way of updates to several Tennessee statutes. [1] [2]

This legislation is a smart move because it directly addresses serious concerns tied to mRNA technologies. It highlights risks such as the activation of 33 allergy related genes and 66 asthma related genes. It also points to the upregulation of 67 cancer related genes and 25 immunological genes. These changes could raise the chances of allergic reactions, asthma, cancer risks, autoimmune issues and ongoing inflammation. Other serious side effects of mRNA technology include heart problems like myocarditis, blood clotting, neurological effects and fertility impacts.

The momentum is growing in other states

Arizona’s House Bill 2974, introduced by Representative Rachel Jones Keshel, labels modified mRNA injections as biological agents and weapons of mass destruction. It sets tough penalties, including life imprisonment, if violations cause death. [3] [4]

Minnesota’s House File 3219, sponsored by Representative Shane Mekeland, treats mRNA products as bioweapons. It makes their manufacture, possession or distribution a felony offense. [5] [6]
