Good Morning !!
The thought was to 'publish' on Saturday mornings, as Friday is much to 'busy' for most to have time to contemplate things while 'rushing around' to finish the work week and prep for the weekend. Saturdays are usually more contemplative anyway, and this will hopefully give you something to think about while at your kid's sports game, or during NASCAR commercials, or enjoying the view from your backyard deck. Now that the usual subjects, 'the basics', are 'covered', what's next !? Lol Something funny, deeply serious, Mainstream 'challenging', or somewhat 'timely' ?
Have got 13 articles basically 'ready to go', so get ready for a 'wild ride' !! Decided to go with something timely, as CBS 60 Minutes last Sunday had a very good interview about AI, but I disagree that it's going to be 5 to 10 years before we see a 'dramatic increase' in what AI will have its 'digital fingers' into ! I think it will be less than 2 years before we are near to, and being 'dangerously' sucked into, the Singularity !!
Moore's Law in decades past, stated it only took 18 months for computing power to 'double'. Someone recently reduced that to 2.7 months !! Let's call it 3 months, that's 16 X in a year ! That's 2 to the power squared, 4 times = 16. Combine that with Space Commando's posting about "Understanding the New World Order" by Jim Quinn of "The Burning Platform" and we do have something to 'contemplate on Saturday mornings' ! Yes, as Michio Kaku spoke about some years ago, "Going from a Type 0 Civilization to a Type 1 Civilization, is the most dangerous time of all !" And it seems to me that we are 'on the threshold' of that 'danger'. As my Dad would write 'proposals' to get more contracts for North American in the 'space race business' during the 1960's, my 'self appointed' task is to 'carry on that tradition' !

A Proposal
Planning, Construction, and Operation of the Electric Spaceship
[ $1 Trillion Project with a 30 Year Expected Design-Construction Phase-Duration ]
To succeed in this Grand Endeavor a number of not inconsequential hurdles must be overcome, initially described as:
1. How do we theoretically and practically make use of the electric energy potential present in a Birkeland Current so as to be the main fuel supply for our main propulsion system ?
[ Because you CANNOT haul all of your main propellant with you for the entire voyage, and/or back again !!! Wooden ships used the wind, iron ships hauled fuel oil, but this is Outer Space, there is no wind, and there is no air for combustion. Therefore, we MUST make use of the available energy in the ‘ambient environment’ and Birkeland Currents are where the energy is !!! ]
2. And, how do we theoretically design and operate that Main Propulsion Engine ?
[ Ion propulsion is too slow and not responsive enough for emergency evasive action ]
3. How do we do “The Download” ? The Download being: Downloading a human being’s Consciousness and memories into a ‘flash drive’ and incorporate that into some sort of robotic body.
[ Because, taking the human body into Outer Space is monumentally inefficient, prohibitively expensive and exceptionally dangerous, and especially for any voyage that goes beyond Mars or the Asteroid Belt, both of which may actually be beyond our ability to safely transport the human body. The human body needs to be able to: breathe, drink, eat, excrete, wash itself, exercise, keep warm, sleep, not experience too many ‘G’ Forces, not experience more than a minute amount of ‘radiation’, not get ‘space sick’ due to weightlessness, not ‘freak out’ psychologically, not become irrational or paranoid and make ‘bad decisions’ ]
These are the biggest ‘strategic’ solutions we must solve, and solve first; only then can we really begin to actually work on what’s next.
After the initial Big 3 it’s ‘mostly tactical’, some of which are:
1. What materials will be used, and where do we find them in the quantity needed.
2. Where do we locate our manufacturing facilities ? To have suitable habitation for the workers, and what kind of ‘security’ will be required. [ Would the Moon be a good location ? ]
3. What kind of ‘administration-oversight’ structure will work best to assure quality control and intellectual property rights preservations. [ A sort of ‘Skunk Works’ approach if you will ]
4. Who will be ‘in charge’ ? [ Will it be a ‘Kelly Johnson’ approach, or a ‘committee approach’ ? Can there be a synthesis of a KJ and a committee approach ? ]
5. What will be the political, sociological, and economic ramifications and repercussions ? [ As only a tiny number of humans will actually occupy the Electric Spaceship, and will be doing so as ‘downloaded’ humans, the overwhelmingly large percentage of Humanity will be resigned to remaining on Earth for their entire Lifetime, and as such why would they want to know this project is being accomplished or even contemplated, as that would most likely make them feel sad or abandoned, and then they might get angry that we are not spending this energy and money on improving Life on Earth. That said, this is an extremely long term endeavor, probably 30 years in the making, and that $1 Trillion won’t be spent in the first year, probably only $10 Million. The first 10 years of this endeavor would be research, planning, testing, design and redesign. Actual physical construction of the ship wouldn’t take place until the last 10 years. And this might not take 30 years !, the Human DNA Genome Mapping Project was completed a lot sooner than estimated ! ]
6. As an assessment and estimate of what to do first; 6 working groups would be formed to begin work on the separate various aspects, and then later coordinate together as the work successfully progressed.
1. The Dark Mode Birkeland Currents Mapping Group. They would theoretically predict what elements and what ionization states would be present in the Dark Mode Birkeland Currents. Then calculate and lab test what electron emission spectra they would be radiating. Then do an all-sky photograph in those wavelengths using Fourier Transform filters from a space based telescope and examine the results. This could take a while until we get the exact wavelengths needed so these Birkeland Currents could be photographed. There are probably 6,000 data points for all the atoms in all their various energized states and all the pathways they can radiate discrete photon wavelengths by electron renormalization and electron recombination in the ‘allowed’ and ‘forbidden’ pathways. Rather than calculate all 6,000 and test verify several hundred of the most promising, we could try and short cut it by some educated guessing, though you know how that goes ! Some of these 6,000 data points are already known and are in the scientific literature, but many are not. We must be able to ‘see’ these Dark Mode Birkeland Currents so as to have a ‘roadmap’ of where they go if we are to travel them and use their energy ! As well as photograph them during flight to assess any changes !
2. The Electric Spaceship Propulsion Group. They would theorize and test how to use the electric energy present in a Dark Mode Birkeland Current for our main propulsion system.
3. The Download Working Group. They would investigate and test how do we ‘download’ a human being’s Consciousness into a ‘flash drive’ and connect that to a powerful but small computer and install that in a robotic body.
4. The Robotic Working Group. They would design and test a multitude of various designs of robotic bodies for human occupation. [ A number of companies are currently working on robotic designs and could be subcontracted etc. The robotic body does NOT have to look human, perhaps spherical, with 6 or 10 ‘arms’ would be more useful, with the computer centrally located for protection, and several ‘protected’ copies of the ‘software’ so no one gets ‘killed’ by an accidental erasure of data, intense radiation exposure, or system crash. ]
5. The Electric Spaceship Design and Construction Group. They would begin with a series of detailed preliminary designs for the actual ship, and when the Propulsion Group had a workable engine design a more final ship design could be envisioned and incorporated.
6. The Logistics Group. They would investigate what materials are needed and where to get them, what kind of skilled labor is needed and how to accommodate them, where to locate the manufacturing facilities and how to acquire the real estate for those facilities, and other logistical requirements. [ Would the Moon be a good location for assembly and or manufacture. ]
Why Do This
If we are to become a Type I Civilization, as Michio Kaku describes, and if we are to secure our place as an ‘immortal species’ in this Galaxy, we simply cannot remain on one planet, we must travel outward and ‘seed’ other habitable planets. First, we must ‘find’ those habitable planets, and ‘downloaded’ humans are the best vector for doing that. Then we can send DNA samples to ‘create’ human life in biological form on those new planet worlds. This, I believe, is our best strategy for ‘seeding the stars’, and making sure we ‘survive’ as a species, that is of course if we are worthy of surviving as a species. Some of us are definitely NOT worthy, and many of us ARE worthy, so it’s still up for debate if we really are ‘entitled’ as a species to do all of this ‘surviving’.
Besides, it would sure be a Grand Adventure to do all of this !!!
And in the Big Picture, it probably doesn’t matter ‘one tiny whit’ what we do, as this Cosmos is so big, so vast, that whatever we do on our ‘tiny dust mote’ in this Galaxy won’t make any difference at all. And if we do manage to get a few ‘light years out’ from here, so what !, this Galaxy is over 100,000 light years in diameter, and the next big Galaxy is 2 million light years distant !! So we aren’t going to make ‘a dent in anything’ in the ‘big picture’ of the Universe, or even in our own Galaxy, so the ‘pollution’ argument is not really valid, if anyone should raise it.
And, as we had the unexpected discoveries of; Teflon, Tang, and other things due to the first Space Program, we will also discover a host of new things and new knowledge as well, on this Second Space Program.
