Russian sub base hit by powerful earthquake

Turkish news has reported that despite social media posts reporting heavy damage at the base, including submarines with "holes punched in them" after a Tsunami dashed them against piers, - no actual damage happened there.

Here is a quote from the Turkish source:

A massive 8.8 quake off Kamchatka triggered tsunami alerts and evacuations, while some unconfirmed social media reports claimed heavy damage at a Russian submarine base.

The quake, centered 119 kilometers (74 miles) east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 20.7 kilometers (13 miles), is the strongest to hit the region since 1952, according to the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Unverified reports suggested possible structural damage to Russia¨s Vilyuchinsk submarine base, which houses Borei-class ballistic missile submarines. These vessels form a critical part of Russia¨s strategic nuclear deterrent.

However, no official confirmation has been provided regarding damage or flooding at the facility.

My comment:

Russia probably would not officially announce heavy damage and the proximity of the earthquake would certainly imply something did get damaged. However, Russia knows about the earthquake dangers of that area, so I would not be surprised if Russia fared well. Total wipeout as advertised on Faceplant? Doubt it. Totally unscathed? totally doubt it.

Many are speculating it was all done by an earthquake machine to weaken Russia's nuclear fleet before a war.

I won't rule that out, especially considering Trump's "50 day deadline". It is possible. I would guess that some of the subs are ok and others need significant repairs. There were a LOT of subs based there. I doubt everything is OK.
