For the last month or more, when I am able to walk in the woods, I have noticed cicada holes in the ground where the cicadas emerge in the Spring. I have been waiting and waiting to start hearing their incessant noise as the days have gotten warmer. However, this year I heard only ONE cicada on ONE day last week. Shift to the back yard, where a new bird call has been stumping me for several weeks - sort of like a police whistle, in part. Finally, I saw the head of the bird, with its unusual shape and ruffled appearance- it is a Flycatcher!! Guess what flycatchers love to eat - Cicadas!!! So, perhaps there is no Cicada din because they are being scarfed by the Flycatchers!! Another neat observation is that they have made a nest in one of the birdhouses and are making the most precious cooing sounds when they enter. I'm wondering if they are "talking" to their nestlings??!!!

Thankfully, there is solace and comfort in Nature!!
