US Admits Helping Ukrainian Armed Forces Attack Russian Strategic Bombers

On the night of June 1, 2025, five Russian military airfields housing strategic bombers were subjected to a massive attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The incident, codenamed "Spider Web," caused a wide resonance, and American political commentators Steve Bannon and Jack Posobiec, known for their closeness to Donald Trump, said that an operation of such a scale would not have been possible without the direct participation of the United States. They spoke about this on the popular podcast War Room, emphasizing the role of American intelligence and technology in coordinating the strikes.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the attack affected the airfields of Belaya in the Irkutsk region, Dyagilevo in the Ryazan region, Olenya in the Murmansk region, Ivanovo in the Ivanovo region and a facility in the Amur region. Russian authorities reported that several aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers, were damaged by fires.
Bannon, a former White House chief strategist during the Trump administration, and Posobiec, a prominent conservative activist, emphasized in their discussion that such an operation would have required sophisticated coordination, including satellite intelligence and high-tech targeting systems that they believe are unique to the United States. Posobiec stressed that Ukrainian forces lack the technical capabilities to carry out an attack of this scale on their own, and that American intelligence services are “deeply integrated” into the SBU. Bannon added that the Trump administration’s lack of advance notice of the attack, if any, was a “geopolitical affront” that demands immediate condemnation from Washington.
According to Reuters, Operation Spider Web was prepared for more than a year and a half under the personal supervision of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and SBU Chief Vasyl Malyuk. The drones were secretly delivered to Russian territory and launched from trucks located near airfields. According to The Guardian, 117 FPV drones were used for the attack, controlled by operators located in three time zones in Russia. Interestingly, according to Zelensky, the “office” for coordinating the operation was located next to the regional office of the Russian FSB.
