I was at an event a couple of weeks ago for training on how to raise capital from very rich people. During lunch I was seated with three other attendees. None of us knew each other. Two of them were in real estate, as were most of the attendees, and they hit it off like two peas in a pod discussing possible deals.

Then one of them asked me what I did. I explained I was way outside the box for the attendees of this event. The training was all about how to suck up to rich potential investors, dance to their tune, work your life into their whims, and then give control over to them once they invest if they decide to do so.

I explained the antimicrobial ionic silver my company makes, the fact that venture capitalists have shown up over a dozen times predicting the company could be sold for hundreds of millions of dollars in five or six years, and that I turned them down because they only valued money, not the people we get to help.

One of the two real estate guys immediately gave me a very brief lecture -- the same one I’d heard a few times from others at these kinds of events. “They’re the ones with the money. They have it, you need it. You have to cater to their priorities, and if they invest they will be in control of how the money is used.”

I said with emphatic insistence, stabbing my finger into the air with each word for emphasis:

“No, no, no, and NO!”

Then I added, “There’s a song that I’ve considered my theme song for decades now about investors. It’s Sunshine by Jonathan Edwards, and there’s a line in it that explains my position on this exactly as I see it:

“He can’t even run his own life. I’ll be damned if he’ll run mine!”

Yes, I really have turned down many millions from “ordinary” investors who only care about the money. I believe we should care about how we make our money and use our money, and that once a certain level of wealth is achieved it can no longer be mainly about more and more money. I believe most problems of humankind boil down to that one core aspect of our level of cultural evolution.

I’m raising money, which I’ve made no secret of. (It’s odd that I have to even say that, since money for the right reasons is an extremely righteous thing.)

I currently need to raise $50K-$1M so I can instantly go do the real work, which I made clear in that post.

I’ve raised plenty of money to date, but in small sums. All of it has been from extraordinarily good people, mostly who I met because they were first customers of our product. I’m not saying all wealthy people are not good people, though I’ve met hundreds and most are quite disconnected from humanity.

There is a small percentage who get it and give a damn. I’m building a coalition of exactly those people.

My job is to raise real capital from a handful of rich people who are indeed tuned in to humanity, and I’m now incredibly well poised to open floodgates in that regard the moment I get a decent cushion in here.
