CGI's Sonik_Cat: The Gigantic Megalithic Capstone of Tinkinswood | Plus St Lythans Dolmen | Megalithomania
"An investigation of two remarkable megalithic burial chambers near Cardiff in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Tinkinswood dates to 4000 BC and is one of the Severn-Cotswold type tombs and consists of a limestone capstone weighing 40 - 50 tons and measuring 24ft (7.3 m) by 14ft (4.3 m). It is thought to be the largest in Britain, and also possibly in Europe! Inside the chamber were 920 pieces of human bone showing that nearly 50 people were buried here in Neolithic times. In legend, anyone who spends a night at this site preceding May Day, St John's Day (23rd June), or Midwinter Day would either die, go raving mad, or become a poet. The group of boulders to the south of the monument is said to be women turned to stone for dancing on the Sabbath, a common theme in the folklore of megalithic sites.
St Lythans was once a larger megalithic chamber dating to the same age, but with only a few stones remaining and lies about half a mile to the west of the hamlet of St Lythans, near Dyffryn Gardens. It has legends! The capstone spins on halloween or the summer solstice and the name of it is also known as Gwâl y Filiast (The Kennel of the Greyhound Bitch), which may refer to Arthurian hunting myths. The field it stands in is said to be 'accursed' by spirits where vegetation never grows properly. Includes exclusive aerial footage." (Megalithomania).
