A chart comparing today’s post-COVID-19 inflationary wave to the great inflation of the 1970s is making the rounds again after Wednesday’s hotter-than-expected CPI report.

Apollo economist Torsten Slok included a version of the chart in emailed commentary shared with clients and the media early Thursday.

“If the Fed cuts interest rates too early, it increases the likelihood that we will see a repeat of the 1970s. The Fed has no other options than to keep interest rates higher for longer”, Slok said.
