WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR!
Our conflicting split US military involvement is explained, with good ETs helping US, while the commercially contracted bad ETs are trying to give our divided military the ET technology to control US.
The bad ETs basically run earth and have all the politicians locked up.
They cannot shoot down the good ETs without changing the soft war, because that would change the ET cold war to a hot war.
However, there is nothing to prevent the bad ETs from giving the Americans the equipment to make their own bad choice to shoot down the good ETs - since that doesn’t violate anybody’s free will.
