What's on Your Bucket List?

In Australia we say "What's on your bucket list?" -- meaning If you could do something difficult or amazing, just for the hell of it, what would that be?

i wasn't sure if it's an Oz-only expression, so I asked Google and, naturally, Reddit replied. Seems international. The first entry on Reddit said "I'd like to have sex on all seven continents." I don't think that is so exciting. Great sex 7 times on one continent would be just as good and would save airfares, no? Save marching through the TSA. (Sorry, I'm a party pooper. Really can't stand the TSA march.)

This article is about my friend Bruce Hoffman in South Australia. (See video below, by Narella Graham.) He started doing his buckets when he was 80 and is now 94. Imagining he's got 6 more chances, he'll be able to 'retire' at 100. One bucket that he's done successfully was a hot lap on a Ferrari. Another was a skydive, as you'll see below in the video. At age 90 he ventured into absailing but that was the big booboo; he was seriously injured.

In his real job, Bruce was proud to work for United Parcel Service. He was also one of the Barossa barons, in the Barossa Valley wine trade. The other wine valley in South Australia is McLaren Vale.

"Hoffy" now hangs out in a granny flat at the home of his son and daughter-in-law. Does he play cards? Yes, but he prefers to pop down to the gym for some weight-lifting.

Makes you wonder how much talent is sequestered in nursing homes today. I, a lass of 77, and still "independent," believe that society really needs the help of the elderly who can recall how America functioned well. No doubt it can be done again. Part of the trick was Discpiline.

Bruce, can you teach discipline?
