Was this Yerington earthquake somehow connected to the M 7.x that recently struck off the California coast near Eureka?

USGS reported that at least 19 aftershocks ranging from M 2.x-3.x have struck the Yerington region since the initial tremor that was upgraded to a M 5.8.

Preliminary magnitude 5.5 earthquake near Lake Tahoe felt in Bay Area

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 and a depth of 4.7 miles struck near a small town southeast of Reno on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 16 miles northeast of Yerington, Nevada, according to USGS. Yerington is approximately 70 miles from Reno and 75 miles from Lake Tahoe.

As of 3:45 p.m., 8,316 people reported feeling the shake on the USGS’ Felt Report. Light to moderate shaking was felt in Reno and Carson City, Nevada. Some weak shaking was also felt in parts of California, from Chico and Sacramento down to San Francisco and San Jose in the Bay Area. Light shaking was also reported in parts of the San Joaquin Valley, including in Merced and Fresno.

There have been nine aftershocks as of 3:45 p.m., with the strongest being a preliminary magnitude of 3.3.
