NW comment: If this doomed expedition occurred in 1839 when modern photography was in its infancy, how was the crew able to produce these images in such a harsh environment like Antarctic?

Terra Nova Expedition

British explorer Robert Falcon Scott led the Terra Nova Expedition to Antarctica in the winter of 1910, aimed to reach the South Pole and conduct scientific research. Scott and his team reached the pole on January 17, 1912, only to find that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen had beaten them there by about a month. The return journey was marked by extreme hardship and tragic failure, as Scott and his four companions perished on their way back, falling victim to starvation, exhaustion, and the brutal Antarctic conditions.
