I worked in animal shelters and I was a veterinary technician for many years. I have held dogs and cats who had to be euthanized. I used to think that I should be used to it by now, but each time tears came to my eyes. Sometimes, death is merciful for those animals wounded beyond repair. Sometimes there is nobody to care for a dog or cat and euthanasia is better than slowly starving to death and ignored in a concrete jungle.

I hunt for my own food. I process it, and our family is sustained through our ability to process our own food. I know how humanely I treat the animals I hunt. It is not an obnoxious paradox. It is a humane difference, an immense cultural divide. All deaths are NOT the same.

There is a huge difference in American's hunting and actual humane euthanasia, versus what is happening in these immigrant cases.

I have never stomped a cat (or anything) on the head and started eating it in front of my neighbors. Nor grabbed a goose by it's neck from the wild or from a park and dragged it home with it suffering the entire time until I was ready to eat it. These two versions are supported by video and evidence, not a rumor or a story someone told someone else.

I don't go to a different country and start treating that country as though my values are more important than that different countries values.

I wouldn't go to Haiti and start telling them to stop eating cats. I wouldn't tell them anything at all. So why would American's be expected to tolerate their values above our own?

Being a hunter does not make one inhumane. Killing an animal does not make one inhumane.

Stomping (someone's) beloved cat on the head and eating it in front of your neighbors is inhumane.

Equating that act, to hunting and euthanasia is not a paradox.
