What do I mean by that title? As I have watched what we do and how we interact with other countries, with other cultures, I have to agree with the sixties book by that title. First of all, I have never completely understood the petro dollar. Why should Germany, for instance, have to exchange their mark to the U.S. dollar before buying oil or gas from Venezuela? Who the hell do we think we are? We need to be doing business with other nations as a nation. Not as the biggest bully on the block.
Where do we get off nation building in other parts of the world? Who are we to tell people what kind of government they should have? That is up to the population of those countries. If they don’t like living under a tyrannical yoke, they will eventually throw it off and establish a different form of government, more to their liking.
I thought the point in the Ugly American of how differently we even set up our embassies was eyeopening. The Soviet Union, for example, had their embassy employees learn the language and the culture of the nation where they built the embassy. We relied on the people there as interpreters. Maybe honest ones. Maybe not. We went into other countries like a rampaging elephant and, in many cases, walked all over their culture and their customs. Like the British before us, we expected the people of those nations to become darker skinned versions of us, adopting our culture and customs. That might work to an extent in America as people from various countries came to America to stay. It is reasonable to expect them to assimilate, which some people aren’t capable of doing. But, we have no business taking over other countries and trying to Americanize them. We lost a lot of respect around the world by operating that way.
What is it that China does differently? They might have visions of world dominance, but instead of trying to take over other countries militarily, they set up mutual trade. They help the population of those countries build bridges, roads, set up hospitals and schools. They put their money and labor to good use and those countries make them welcome. How do you think BRICS got started? Not at the point of a gun. This is why I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020. It wasn’t because I was in awe of a television star. I hate those kinds of shows. I wanted to see what a business man could do. I already knew what a politician could do. F**k things up royally, riding the out of control horse of ego. I was not disappointed with Trump. I had campaigned for Ross Perot as well, until he caved in over threats to his family.
Trump showed strength to other world leaders, besides showing them a degree of respect. Well, calling Kim Jung Un Little Rocket Man might have been a little over the top. But it didn’t keep the North Korean from agreeing to meet with the President and come to an agreement to back off his aggressive moves toward South Korea, Japan and to some extent, us.
Instead of invading or bombing other nations, Trump worked at building trust and demanded fairness in negotiations. He insisted that other NATO countries start paying their fair share, instead of America paying the lion’s share. He made countries who were sending us their ‘problem children’, emptying jails and mental institutions, instead of their best and brightest, to rethink that strategy as he stopped the flow of aid to them, until they agreed to take them back. He informed China that if they continued to impose a significant tariff on our goods going to China, we would do the same to their products being sold here. Something I had been screaming about for decades!
He got Mexico to agree to halt the flow of illegals through their country and keep them there, as they went through the formality of asking for asylum. When the Mexican president balked, Trump told him he would levy a huge tariff on the cars Mexico sent to the U.S. if he didn’t agree to keep illegals out of the United States. The Mexican president backed down and agreed to keep the illegals in Mexico. Trump outmaneuvered every leader he dealt with. For not being a trained diplomat, military man or politician, he taught all of them ‘The Art of the Deal’ quite impressively. And did our politicians and others appreciate the lessons? Of course not. They went after every chink in his armor they could find.
That is probably what turned Obama’s hair white when Trump won in 2016. His beautiful 24 year plan to be in control of a country he obviously hated, had been thwarted. And, Big Mike said he wasn’t interested in running for office in 2024 or any other time. We’ll see. But it doesn’t look like they are going to get Jill, I mean Joe to retire. One thing Obama failed to consider in his plan to turn America into a third world, Marxist/communist country, was to leave the population out of his plans. You know, those deplorables that Hillary so easily dismissed. For all of our faults, in spite of our naivety, we know how to put our petty differences aside and stand united as Americans. The entire country, including the blue states, are patriotic enough to thwart Obama’s agenda. He hadn’t counted on that. It is one of the things that prompted so many people to come to America. They might have had to put up with some prejudice for a time, but eventually, they became as American as those of us whose ancestors came here earlier. We will not allow those who hate us to prevail. Enough of us have awakened in time to push back. It was a close call. But, we will win. And then, we will deal with the traitors who tried to destroy us. Hopefully, along the way, we, especially our politicians and military leaders will have learned to respect other nations and their people. The only time we should put military on anyone else’s soil would be to protect them from invasion, to help in time of natural disaster, to assist with medical needs or help them to rebuild afterwards. That would be at the invitation of the leaders of those countries. And, when the need passed, we would bring the troops back home to continue building roads and bridges here. To fortify our own infrastructure. That is true globalism practiced by individual and sovereign nations. I think that is what the ET’s have been trying to tell us for a long time.
Some last thoughts. Russia didn’t want to be our enemy. Or they wouldn’t have asked to join NATO. But we rebuffed them. After all, you can’t use a country as a bogey man to scare the populace into backing wars against a country if you make them a friend and ally. Give that some thought. It has always seemed strange to me that we could call Russia, and before that, the Soviet Union, an arch enemy. Yet they helped us during three wars for sure. We shared many of the arts with them. And then, there is the shuttle to the Space Station, which we couldn’t have participated in without Russia. So, exactly how are they our enemy?
So before some idiot decides to try to provoke WWIII, can we ratchet down the hateful rhetoric and act like adults, please?
