New Math

Good afternoon Hobie:

Title: Children Get Poor Math Scores... Blame it on NEW Math

Have any adults, fathers, mothers, grandfathers or grandmothers worked with New Math. The science behind New Math is impossible to understand or apply. The steps and functions are far more complex with no advantage besides making math harder for our children.

Present and push Your local Board of Education (NOT) for the re-installation of math standards based on historic mathematics of the 20th century, before the implementation of the TRASH New Math. They should never have implemented New Math it only makes one wonder how to do any calculations sensibly.

I am a grandfather and still remember trying (I said trying) to help my then young daughter in how to do New Math. It was near impossible as an adult! And make no sense as to why the New Math was more complex than the traditional math.

Maybe I am just not a math proficient person you may say. Nope I love math and have spent years studying not only math by the men and women behind its evolution. I now have advanced degrees with an education in top mathematics. And still I would not take on the challenge of New Math. It is from the ground up stupid.

Drop the New Math that offers no advantages and go back to common sense math. Then watch your students understanding and appreciation for math go up.

The rest is up to the teachers to build interest and application in what they learn. I taught College Statistics to students and got the majority excited about its application and how it can used in marketing strategies and problem solving. If I can do it anyone can.
