Having a fully stocked survival food pantry is crucial in case of food emergencies. But building one is not as simple as filling up your kitchen pantry with whatever food items you can get your hands on.

The last thing any prepper would want is to have a survival cache full of spoiled or rotten food. That’s why you should stock up on survival foods that have incredibly long shelf lives to be sure that they will still be edible no matter when you need them.

Honey

One of the oldest non-meat foods known to man, honey has been consumed all over the world for centuries. Not only can it add sweetness to other foods, but it also contains plenty of minerals, antioxidants and natural enzymes. This highly versatile ingredient should be at the top of any long-term storable survival food list since it will remain edible, even after several years, and it can even be used for a number of survival applications. One of the most potent and beneficial types of honey is manuka honey.

Salt

With its virtually unlimited shelf life, salt is another highly useful and versatile survival food item. It can help add sodium to your diet and enhance the flavor of your meals. Plus, it also has a variety of survival uses, such as food preservation, sanitation and even cleaning wounds when used in a saline solution.

Sugar

While it may clump together over time, sugar will practically never go bad and will remain edible for years to come. Sugar may not be seen as a healthy food but it is still an important ingredient in a wide variety of recipes. It also wouldn’t hurt to add a little sweetness to your survival foods every once in a while.

Baking soda

Not only is baking soda useful for cooking and baking, but it can also be used as a DIY toothpaste, household cleaner and fire extinguisher, among many other applications.
