Songwriter Allee Willis recalled telling NPR the following about the words "ba-dee-ya" in the chorus sung by Maurice White, "I just said, 'What the f*** does "ba-dee-ya" mean?' And he essentially said, 'Who the f*** cares?' I learned my greatest lesson ever in songwriting from him, which was 'Never let the lyric get in the way of the groove'."

From 1978, here are Earth, Wind & Fire with "September". This went to #8 on the Hot 100 chart and #1 on the R&B chart. The video has been viewed over 680 million times at YouTube.
