Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has predicted that the 3 million residents of the Ukrainian capital are in for a very difficult winter as officials table a mass evacuation plan due to damage to energy infrastructure.

This means that the Russians will achieve a big goal: The gradual evacuation of Kiev which will be accompanied by a new Russian attack from the side of Belarus.

Ukrainian citizens will be forced to leave the country's capital as the energy companies have literally collapsed and the situation is desperate. If this is achieved, which now seems inevitable, then S.Surovikin will have taken a big step towards the occupation of Kiev.

Vitali Klitschko has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to force Kiev residents to leave the city by bombing infrastructure.

Putin is "trying to terrorize the world, make it freeze, without light" to put his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky under pressure, the mayor of Kyiv said.

"But nothing like that will happen. My impression is that people will become angrier, more determined. We will not die, nor will we put it to rest as Putin wants," he insisted.

He also asked Germany to send as soon as possible generators, protective clothing and various items of a humanitarian nature, in addition to weapons and ammunition.

Will Kyiv survive the toughest winter since World War II?
The mayor of Kyiv told Politico that Russia "wants Ukraine without Ukrainians," adding that his countrymen must resist."They want to freeze us, destroy our electricity, heating, generators.

"They are doing everything to remove the Ukrainians, but these [are] our homes, our cities, and we don't want to leave," he added.
Russia's bombings have fueled fears of a new refugee wave to western Ukraine and European Union countries, but Klitschko insists morale remains high in the capital.

Klitschko also sought to clarify comments he and other Ukrainian officials made earlier this month, stressing that he does not want to see any of Kiev's more than three million residents leave or leave.

Officials, including Roman Tkachuk, security director of Kyiv's municipal administration, raised the prospect of a mass evacuation in the event of a total blackout. Later, however, Tkachuk retracted his statements.

In the worst case scenario, if the Ukrainian capital is left without heating due to Russian airstrikes targeting the electricity grid and "if we cannot deliver water and electricity" , then "I will ask people to consider moving into houses in villages and districts around Kyiv where they can have water and warmth," he said.

That's Klitschko's worst-case scenario, and he warns city residents that if they don't want to leave, they "have to be prepared" and make sure they stock enough drinking water and batteries to charge cellphones and other already-electric equipment.

Dressed in a green camouflage uniform with his bulletproof vest propped in a corner in an office filled with boxing memorabilia and models for future city buildings, Klitschko said Kyiv had prepared a thousand centers – mostly schools and kindergartens – to protect residents for the possibility of severe weather.

Wood stoves and generators have been purchased to heat the shelters, although the schools were chosen because some already have independent heat sources.

Food, water and medical supplies are also stored.
The city has already lost about half of its energy capacity to Russian missile attacks, and areas of it are experiencing scheduled blackouts.

Most areas have no street lighting — part of an effort to reduce energy needs.
Klitschko rattles off a list of items Kiev needs from Ukraine's Western allies to get through the winter: generators, sleeping bags, warm clothes, mattresses.

But, above all, he stresses that Ukraine needs more air defense systems to fully block its skies and prevent the passage of missiles or drones. "We have to protect the sky above our heads," he said.

It describes Russia's operation to level the power grid as an act of terrorism. In Kyiv, the Russian strikes also took place in the historic center "near our central university and in playgrounds," he says angrily.

"And that's why we need right now to protect [the] sky above the
heads of our citizens and that's why we need [more] air defense systems immediately," he said. Asked if that would include the US Patriot system, he said, “Yes, of course. we would be very happy." (excerpts)
