BATTLEFORWORLD.COM | October 22, 2022: The US Army's 101st Airborne Division has been conducting joint live-fire ground and air assault exercises and is ready to enter Ukraine if further tensions between Moscow and Kiev ensue or an attack on a NATO member state, the Western press is reporting, citing the division's command staff.
The commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team Colonel Edwin Matthaidess said US troops deployed to Romania have been "closely watching" Russian forces and that his division is the closest US unit to the fighting going on in Ukraine. And that his brigade is "building objectives to practice against" and organizing drills to "replicate exactly what's going on" in Ukraine. Further adding, that "It keeps us on our toes".
"We're ready to defend every inch of NATO soil," says the US Army's 101st Airborne's Deputy Commander Brigadier General John Lubas, the media reports, noting that "In all, about 4,700 soldiers from the 101st Airborne's home base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, have been deployed to reinforce NATO's eastern flank." ...
