The location of the drill was announced as heightened tensions between the US and China over Taiwan escalates, as India and China are already clashing along their mountain border. Tensions have remained high in the region ever since, with India accusing China in May for building a bridge in the territory it considers under "illegal occupation."

And relations between the United States and China have also degenerated significantly from the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan this week. After which, Beijing responded to the visit by launching large-scale military drills near Taiwan, cutting imports from the island, sanctioning Pelosi and her family, and severing diplomatic ties with Washington DC in a number of key areas, to include climate change. ...
