In the UK there are many centuries old houses formerly owned by the Lords of the Manor, but now open as museums. In the kitchen of one house I saw a centuries old water filter similar to this made from un-glazed pottery, so this is a centuries old technology.

You can also put a large silver coin in the bottom to keep the water clear/fresh & it WORKS!!! Romans/sailors used silver coins in water tanks to keep the water fresh.. I keep a silver coin in my water pitcher and my glass & it doesn't get slimy anymore!

I remember having rain barrels on most of the corners of the house.. where I live now, and I didn't find this out till a few years ago, county ordinances ban rain barrels or cisterns for collection and storage. I want to know what coward(s) legislated against these things that were used all over for centuries and completely legal and encouraged in other states.

Love the idea and gonna go source materials today.. so simple, economical, and practical.. until they ban them for cutting into someone's profits.
