Unless the Russians sortied aircraft or people inside Polish borders to physically attack on Polish soil, NO this could not trigger article 5.

Truthfully there's a large amount of doubt by most avid military watchers that even a legitimate article 5 triggering incident would actually result in everyone turning over their only forces to defend their own countries over to NATO command to fight a war to benefit just one country like Poland.

The truth is that when you take the obvious military off the table, Turkey, the remaining nations other than Poland don't actually have large enough militaries to hold their own countries much less push militarily significant formations of men and machines forward.

In reality any such true article 5 triggering event is likely to cause the NATO alliance to crumble rather than take the field in a war of mutual defense.

There are shockingly little in the way of tanks planes, afv's, and even warships still in control of the NATO alliance that aren't American or Turkish.

The militaries of Europe for the most part are pathetically small under supplied and physically nowhere near enough to hold their respective country's Capital City regions much less their entire postage stamp sized countries!

If you look at the total active tank counts and etc listed for these countries it's already scary bad enough but it actually gets much worse - like in Germany for example, where about 25% of their average tanks and afv's could be deployable within 30 days and as little as 5% of the air force is actually flyable on any given day.

There's just not enough force available for article 5 to do anything other than ripping the guts out of NATO - If it were triggered.
