With so many positive test results for asymptomatic people, the CDC just declared that such people need to quarantine for five days rather than the previous ten.

What scientific insight led them to this policy?

CDC director Rochelle Walensky said, “It really had a lot to do with what we thought people would be able to tolerate.”

(This reminds me of when Alachua County, Florida, instituted a one-person-per-thousand-square-feet rule for retail establishments. When asked where they got that figure, the county commissioner said it was “because it’s easy math for everybody to do.”)

Then Dr. Fauci:

“There is the danger that there will be so many people who are being isolated who are asymptomatic for the full ten days, that you could have a major negative impact on our ability to keep society running. So the decision was made of saying let’s get that cut in half.”

I’m glad that after nearly two years Dr. Fauci is giving some thought to keeping society functioning, but this is exactly the kind of thinking Fauci himself would have condemned as recently as two weeks ago, back when he was monomaniacally concerned with one issue and unable to entertain the possibility that there may be other things society needs to worry about.

It’s strange, isn’t it? To you and me, it’s excruciatingly obvious that the people in charge are making it up as they go along, while the zombie population is just sure our overlords have some kind of master plan that they learned in a textbook somewhere

Oh, they laughed at people who thought Donald Trump was playing 4D chess and had his own master plan, but they are convinced that Dr. Fauci ruined their lives for a really good, scientific reason.

Speaking of The Science, here’s a New York City council member with some recommendations for schools:

His list of suggestions continues, but I think that gives you the idea.

We now have an avalanche of evidence that schools are safe, and that teachers are at no greater risk than anyone else and if anything have done even better than people in other professions. This evidence comes from all over the world. Yet it makes no difference to our council member, who wants us to think that the more unreasonable he is, the more seriously he’s taking the virus.

Yes, yes, I know: the government’s schools are terrible. I’m not encouraging people to attend them. I am saying it’s psychotic to recommend that children eat lunch in 30 degree weather.

Regarding masks, Sweden’s schoolchildren did not wear masks at all. There are 1.8 million of them. Zero of them died, and their teachers did fine.

It’s just made-up craziness or outright lies. The Chicago mayor keeps screeching about overwhelmed hospitals, for example. But visits to the emergency room are lower than they were before COVID! . . .
